FamilyCare Insect Repellent I Smooth & Dry along with nine other insect repellents, including products containing DEET, picaridin, lemon eucalyptus oil and IR3535. Editors use four volunteers to test these products with two species of mosquitoes common in the U.S., as well as with deer ticks.

The Journal of Medical Entomology compares four synthetic mosquito repellents and eight natural repellents in a laboratory against three species of mosquitoes. Off! FamilyCare Insect Repellent I Smooth & Dry is a newer product offering, but this 2004 study says Off! with 15 percent DEET protects for at least seven hours with all three species.
