It Works, Is Not DEET, What's Not to Like?, November 11, 2009

I've been using Repel Lemon Eucalyptus for a number of years now. I do a lot of work outside, gardening, construction, lawn care and so forth, and with the real threat of West Nile Virus, I was looking for a mosquito repellent. DEET products seem to work very well, but I dislike the smell and worry about the safety of constantly using it. It seems like overkill if I'm just walking the dog or cutting the grass. I can't swear to the effectiveness of the product in a scientific manner, but I can say that I seem to be bite-free while using it. It apparently works for several hours, which is long enough to walk the dog and take care of yard chores after work and on the weekends. I guess if I'm going to be outside all day (such as hiking through swampy fields in the Sierras), I'd have to re-apply after a few hours. I guess one could tell when the effectiveness is wearing off by how the mosquitoes behave. The pump works fine. The only problem with a pump instead of a spray is that it's difficult to get the very last bit out; one has to have the bottle straight up to pump, which is kind of difficult if one is spraying one's legs or boots. I solve the problem by pouring what remains out of the first bottle into the next bottle. So you need to have two bottles on hand at all times. Not a problem when you are working outside at least a few days a week. I'd say a bottle lasts a couple of weeks worth of going outside. I used to be able to find this product easily, but now it seems to be a bit harder, so I'm glad that Amazon is now carrying it.

gets the job done, October 15, 2009
Pretty good , no complains. Less toxic, great aroma , really repels. I use it way outdoors. I go snook fishing all day and it works just as good or better than all the toxic brands in the market.

Great product. Not only does it work well against mosquitoes but it also smells relatively good for bug spray.
Finally a natural repellent for Asian Tiger mosquitoes!, August 29, 2009

My family has been plagued by these Asian Tiger mosquitoes all summer. As much as I hate Deet and chemicals, I've tried virtually everything to deter these bugs, and nothing has worked. This week I saw this Repel Lemon Eucalyptus spray at the store and decided to give it a try. After weeks of having dozens of mosquito bites each day, I haven't had a single one since I tried Repel....the best part is that it's healthy and natural enough to use around my cat and dog without worrying. It's not oily or greasy, and once it's on I don't even notice it...and the smell is really mild. I am thrilled with this product!

An effective, environmentally responsible, and safer alternative to DEET sprays, June 26, 2009

I'm one of the unfortunate people that mosquitoes love. No matter where I go, I am always the first to get bitten. My bites can swell up to the size of a quarter, and particularly bad ones can itch for a week, so it is with great relief that I discovered Repel last summer. I am happy to report that this is very effective for a mosquito lightning rod like me and against such a vicious enemy as the Asian tiger mosquitoes in my area. They've out-competed the brown mosquitoes we used to have, which only bite during the morning and dusk/evening and are quite docile by comparison. Asian tigers are active all day and night and very efficient at finding their prey. They're quicker, meaner, and more prolific. Stepping into the garden without my Repel means 6-8 bites within minutes. Unlike browns, the bites of Asian tigers also hurt. Ease of use: ------------ The pump is very easy to use. It creates a fine mist that can be rubbed in to distribute. The mist gives your skin a bit of a sheen, since it contains oils. The smell is pleasant, though you may wish to hold your breath while spraying, in order to prevent accidental inhalation. You may need to apply generously, depending on your level of mosquito attraction. Environmental and Safety Considerations: ---------------------------------------- The active ingredient p-Menthane-3,8-diol is made from eucalyptus leaves, so you can feel easier about using it. I also bought OFF! Deep Woods Long Lasting Insect Repellents along with this product, but was concerned about DEET getting absorbed into my skin. Repel, on the other hand, is plant-based and much safer to use as well as environmentally more responsible. p-Menthane-3,8-diol poses no risk to humans or animals, according to the EPA, so you don't have to worry about poisoning if you have children or pets.
