Reviewers concur that BitDefender Total Security 2010 is a worthy competitor to the top security suites on the market today, such as Norton Internet Security 2010 (Discontinued). While the core functions of Total Security are relatively unchanged from the 2009 edition, experts note and praise a number of positive improvements. Upon installation, Total Security 2010 can be customized to one of three levels of user sophistication, and it has special modes for gaming and parental controls as well. The user interface has also been redesigned. Still, some find problems with Total Security 2010's performance, such as its use of system resources and its anti-spam effectiveness. But most critics agree that for sheer value, BitDefender Total Security 2010 may be unmatched: the suite contains encryption, secure deletion and tune-up tools, in addition to the standard functions like antivirus protection and firewall.
BitDefender Total Security 2010 is well-reviewed by a wide range of electronics and computer sites and publications. PCMag.com gives the suite the most thorough look by far, though Britain's IT Reviews and Computeractive magazine also offer well-balanced appraisals. Which? magazine compares BitDefender Total Security to other competing suites, but doesn't go into much detail. User reviews are also available at Amazon.com.

PCMag.com's Neil J. Rubenking is generally enthusiastic about BitDefender Total Security 2010, liking its multitude of features and user profiles. However, he describes some installation problems, and says that performance drag and some false postitives in malware scanning keep BitDefender Total Security 2010 from receiving an unequivocal recommendation.

This site awards BitDefender Total Security 2010 a Recommended seal. While the suite doesn't offer much new from the previous year's version -- save a "refresh" of the user interface and more detailed parental controls -- the reviewers are impressed by the range of options, effectiveness and price point.

4. Which? magazineDetails/Subscribe
Which? magazine's Internet security software roundup is based on solid testing, but reviews are perfunctory and lacking in technical details. BitDefender Total Security 2010 gets a good score, though Which? magazine's editors feel that its anti-spam filtering falls below that offered by competing programs.
