Reviewers say Norton Internet Security 2011 is the best Internet security software you can buy. It includes robust antivirus and anti-spyware protection, in addition to a firewall, parental controls and spam filter. Expert praise is nearly unanimous, and Norton Internet Security 2011 earns numerous awards and posts high marks in independent tests. The software does an excellent job of protecting against malware, and the firewall blocks every malicious intrusion in several tests. Unlike previous editions, which were often faulted for being slow and bloated, Norton Internet Security 2011 is more streamlined and runs much faster. It has a negligible impact on computer performance, and the software runs in the background without disrupting programs or applications. However, the spam filter is below average. Although it doesn't often misidentify safe mail as spam, it misses more real spam than several competitors. The dark cluttered interface can also be hard to read. Although it doesn't earn as many recommendations, BitDefender Internet Security 2011 (Discontinued) is a solid alternative for budget shoppers.
The best independent reviews of Norton Internet Security 2011 come from test labs like AV-Comparatives.org and AV-Test.org. Although these sites focus on the software's antivirus performance, AV-Comparatives.org also touches on usability, installation and interface. We also found solid test-based reviews at PCMag.com and PC World. Other technology sources usually rely on performance testing by the third-party labs, but the reviews at Download.com, TheTechHerald.com, PC Pro and What Laptop are useful for their details on ease of use.
