The Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 has received favorable reviews across the board from the most reliable sources and experts. The reviews conclude that the classy design, excellent sound quality and generous feature set make the iM600 speaker system a good all-around value. User reviews are largely positive and seem to align with professional opinions. However, almost all of the reviews make note of the difficult-to-use radio tuner. A few other reviewers point out minor flaws, such as an unsecure speaker dock and casing that shows even small scratches. The inMotion iM600 isn't certified to work with the iPhone, a feature that is rapidly becoming standard for newer iPod speakers (the inMotion iM600 debuted in 2007). If you like Altec Lansing portable speakers, initial reviews are excellent for the portable Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 (*Est. $140). This dock has a more streamlined design and is iPod- and iPhone-compatible. We also found excellent reviews for the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 (*Est. $120), another iPhone-compatible portable speaker set.

ILounge.com, CNET and Macworld all have good comparative reviews, but iLounge.com's coverage is superior for its breadth and depth. ThinkComputers.org conducted an extensive review that uses real-world situations to test the iM600's performance. ConsumerReports.org and Smart Computing also have good but less thorough reviews of iPod speaker docks, including the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600.

iLounge.com is full of comprehensive, up-to-date professional reviews. Jeremy Horwitz thoroughly tests the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 and compares it with earlier Altec Lansing models, saying that the iM600 is the company's best iPod speaker ever. The review is also appropriately critical of the finicky radio, but it still assigns the iM600 a high grade.

2. CNET

3. Macworld

Reviewer Dan Frakes is most impressed with the wide array of features the Altec Lansing iM600 offers for its price, noting that video pass-through, USB syncing and digital radio are all extras that most iPod speakers in this price range do not typically include. However, Macworld also notes that the radio is difficult to tune.

In this comprehensive review, Bob Buskirk tests out the iM600 speakers from a consumer's point of view and makes some insightful discoveries. Taking the speakers outside the lab, Buskirk finds that the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 performs great at a crowded pre-game tailgate party. However, he also wishes the iM600 came with a carrying case, like many other models do.
