- Good sound quality
- Powerful enough for a small room
- Includes dual alarms, video out jack
- As cumbersome as a clock radio
- Could be more powerful
- Not shielded for the iPhone
The Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-i is a bookshelf speaker system that gets good reviews from experts and users alike. Experts say that the sound quality is excellent and that the volume is ideal for a living room, but that it isn't quite powerful enough for a large party or outdoor space. Still, reviewers appreciate the many features, especially for the price. The Horizon doubles as a clock radio with dual alarms, has interchangeable colored front grilles (sold separately) and is even equipped with a video-out jack, so you can hook it up to a TV to play images from your iPod. Almost all reviewers concede that the downside to the Horizon is its cumbersome size, especially if you want to use it as a bedside clock radio. If sound quality is your primary concern, we found better reviews for the Boston Acoustics i-DS3 Plus (*Est. $370). It's more expensive, but this bookshelf speaker system has outstanding sound quality.
We found several useful reviews of the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-i. ILounge.com, a frequent reviewer of iPod docks, tests the Horizon for functionality, ease of use and sound quality and compares the results with competitors. CNET also has a strong review of the Horizon that is complete with a video tutorial. We also found some user reviews at Amazon.com and Buzzillions.com.

Jeremy Horwitz is highly impressed with the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-i, finding that it delivers the best of both worlds by combining a dual alarm clock with a superb sounding speaker dock. Horwitz notes that the Horizon is somewhat large and inconvenient, especially if owners intend to set it on a nightstand.

2. CNET
CNET also gives the Horizon a highly positive review. Jeff Bakalar finds the Horizon's sound quality to be excellent and far reaching, with the ability to produce "room-filling" sound. Furthermore, he likes the features: video iPod support, two aux-in ports and a "cool touch-sensitive snooze rim bar" are all pluses. Again, the only downside noted is the Horizon's large size.
