Bottom line

For a small, budget-priced system, the Bluetooth-enabled G-Boom speaker offers some impressive functionality, as well as a portable -- and durable -- design that works both indoors and outdoors. Reviewers say it's simple to use and pair up with other Bluetooth devices, and the included strap makes it a cinch to bring the speaker along wherever you go.

Ease of use

Easy pairing, comprehensive controls. In expert tests, the G-Boom's Bluetooth pairing works like a charm. At DigitalTrends.com, Ryan Waniata says his device recognized the G-Boom "almost instantly." The front-face controls also make it a breeze to use, including play, track forward/reverse and volume up/down controls.

Appearance

Unique shape, handy carrying strap. The G-Boom's trapezoidal shape makes for a sturdy, stand-alone speaker that won't need a flat or smooth surface in order to stand on its own. Mashable.com's Charlie White says the rubber flap on the back covering the critical ports also functions as a protection from water which makes the G-Boom a great tool for the outdoor picnic/camping setting. The G-Boom has a briefcase-like handle, but you can also add a shoulder strap.

Performance

Impressive sound quality/volume. Reviewers are impressed with the G-Boom's sound quality and clarity, considering the small size (less than a foot long). DigitalTrends.com' Ryan Waniata says the portable speaker cranks out an impressive, crisp midrange without sharpness or sibilance (hissing sound). The G-Project G-Boom speaker earns a Highly Recommended award from Waniata for its performance and rugged design. On iLounge.com, Jeremy Horwitz gives the G-Boom an A grade, and notes that even without the use of the onboard equalizer, the mid, high and low ranges all emit an impressive clarity. Mashable.com's White also concludes that the range of the G-Boom speakers is formidable enough "to create the best sound I've ever heard out of a unit costing a mere c-note." The G-Boom runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery that is rated at six hours of runtime between charges.
