Reviewers are impressed by the sound quality of the iHome iP1 iPod speaker, with its 100-watt, four-channel amplifier. Critics characterize the iHome's sound as "aggressive," noting that it is best suited to rock, hip-hop and pop. CNET's David Carnoy experiences distortion with more sedate acoustic tracks. Placement is important, as Carnoy finds sound quality differs quite a bit depending upon how far away the speaker is from the wall.
