The most important functions for a job site are to yield relevant job listings and to get your resume seen by potential employers. Our research found that social networking plays a large part in today's job searches - and that job seekers should take a multi-pronged approach to their search, utilizing multiple job boards as well as in-person networking. We consulted with a number of business experts and career counselors to identify the best bets.
 

Best job search engine

PCMag.com: SimplyHired is named one of the top 50 "classic" (as opposed to "undiscovered") websites of 2009, in the information category.

PCMag.com: SimplyHired is named as one of the 20 best job search sites.

PCMag.com: Raves PCMag.com's review of SimplyHired, "This should be your new first web stop when looking for a job." Davis Janowski is especially impressed by its aggregate listings of over five million jobs.

Best networking site for job seekers

Mashable.com: Mashable.com covers news and information about social media.

PCMag.com: LinkedIn is one of the top 20 job sites listed here.

PCMag.com: This PCMag.com articles includes LinkedIn as one of the top 10 sites for finding a tech job -- somewhat surprisingly, since it is not a niche site.

About.com: Alison Doyle, About.com's guide to job searching, lists LinkedIn.com as one of the best sites for job seekers.

Blippr.com: This site features very short user reviews of media, including websites.

Forbes: Forbes.com awards MediaBistro.com a Best of the Web award.

PCMag.com: MediaBistro is listed as one of the top 10 sites for finding a tech job.

About.com: Allena Tapia, About.com's freelance writing guide, rates MediaBistro 4 out of 5 stars.

About.com: This profile of MediaBistro.com is written by a former About.com guide who describes the site as "a community website for media professionals." The article gives an overview of MediaBistro's resource sections, which require a premium membership for full access.

Forbes: Monster.com is a Forbes Favorite among job search sites.

StarReviews.com: StarReviews.com has reviews of several top job sites and ranks each site, placing Monster at the very top.

JobHuntersBible.com: This site is run by Richard Nelson Bolles, author of "What Color Is Your Parachute?" Bolles likes Monster.com's numerous features and search options but admits "much of what is good about Monster has to do with its size alone."

AskMen.com: This article covers a handful of job search sites that serve the U.S. and Canada and does not outwardly rank sites.

LoveToKnow.com: LoveToKnow.com provides concise and critical reviews of Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com and Craigslist.

About.com: Monster is given a brief but glowing review in this article that compares and ranks 10 top job sites.

Mashable.com: Mashable.com follows social media and this articles focuses on using social sites to land a job.
