Double Jogging Strollers

Jogging strollers for two

Parents of twins or of multiple children may want to consider a double jogging stroller. One of the biggest problems with double joggers is their width: Most are between 30 and 38 inches wide, which can make for a tight squeeze through doorways and down store aisles. The majority of double jogging strollers have the same features as their single counterparts, so the top-rated BOB and Baby Jogger strollers are good options in this category as well.

Parents say they like the Baby Jogger Performance Double (*Est. $530) for its durability and large, independently adjustable sun canopies. The Performance Double, which has a 150-pound total capacity, measures 33.5 inches in width, making it relatively narrow for a jogging stroller. Even so, some reviewers just find it too large and, though liking the stroller overall, recommend it for parents with lots of storage space and large sidewalks or trails to run on. The fixed front wheel makes it a good choice for jogging, and one parent says it "rides like a dream." Christine Luff, running guide for About.com, says the Baby Jogger Performance Double tracks straight and rides well, and the new V-brake improves handling.

Like their single counterparts, the BOB double jogging and all-terrain strollers receive excellent reviews. The BOB Revolution Duallie (*Est. $590), Sport Utility Duallie (*Est. $430) and Ironman Duallie (*Est. $480) all have 16-inch rear wheels, two-step fold, adjustable incline, five-point harnesses and independently-adjustable canopies. The Revolution 12-inch AW Duallie (*Est. $590) has smaller 12-inch wheels in front and back, so it's more of an all-terrain stroller than a true jogger. Each of the BOB Duallie jogging strollers has fixed-height handlebars, which annoys some parents, although most say it is positioned at a good height. They are all just under 31 inches wide, meaning they can fit through most doorways.

The Ironman is the beefiest Duallie (one owner describes it as the "humvee of strollers"), with fixed 16-inch front and rear wheels with aluminum alloy rims, stainless steel spokes, and a 100-pound total weight limit. The Sport Utility weighs a few pounds more and has fixed 16-inch front and rear polymer wheels. The Revolution (with 16-inch rear polymer and 12-inch front polymer wheels) and Revolution 12-inch AW (with 12-inch bicycle wheels front and back) have pivoting front wheels and used to have lower weight limits, but have been updated to accommodate up to 100 pounds. Of the four strollers, the BOB Revolution Duallie gets the best reviews from consumers (as compiled by Buzzillions.com), but serious runners will like the fixed front wheel on the BOB Ironman double stroller.

At 29 inches, the Mountain Buggy Urban Double (*Est. $750) is one of the narrowest double strollers on the market, and only 2 inches wider than its single model. It has 12-inch polymer wheels front and back. The double set of narrow-spaced front wheels pivots. Each seat can recline on its own and reviewers say this all-terrain stroller is easy to close and open. The Mountain Buggy Urban Double is expensive, but the few owner-written reviews available say its worth the money.

Dreamer Design received positive reviews for its double jogging strollers, but the company went out of business in 2009. Its website says that it will no longer be honoring warranties or providing customer service for its existing strollers.
