For advanced riders, many reviewers say the Razor Ultra Pro is the best bet. They note that at about $70 it's pricier than basic kick scooters, but the tradeoff is a more durable, versatile scooter that's ideal for stunt riders. The Ultra Pro's ability to accommodate rougher terrain and riders up to 220 pounds is another plus.
The Razor Ultra Pro builds on the reinforced head clamp and thicker handgrips of its predecessor, the Razor Pro Model (*Est. $60) , but adds a double-welded down-tube, wider 18-inch handlebars and smoother, ABEC-7-rated wheel bearings. The Razor Ultra Pro doesn't fold for easy storage like the Razor Pro Model, but many reviewers prefer the fixed frame, noting that it removes the potential safety hazard of triggering the Pro Model's folding mechanism during a hard landing.
We found few complaints about performance or durability with the Razor Ultra Pro, but there was some disagreement among posters as to whether the Pro Model is more suitable for riders at the lower end of the 8-and-up recommended age range. Riders shorter than 5 feet 4 inches may be more comfortable using the shorter, lower handlebars found on the otherwise-identical Razor Ultra Pro Lo.
Retail websites Amazon.com, Razorama.com and ToysRUs.com provide the greatest number of owner reviews for this kids' scooter.
