The Mac Professional Mighty Chef is a chef's knife made by an American company, with a forged blade made from a high-carbon alloy of chrome and molybdenum. Reviewers say it's lighter and more flexible than German knives but less "robust." This knife is available in several lengths and styles, from an 8-inch dimpled blade to an long 10.75-inch blade. In one comparative review the dimpled version has slightly better cutting performance, though both are regarded as exceptionally good. Reviewers say this knife is very sharp and holds its edge well, and that its handle is very comfortable. For another chef's knife that experts say is similarly sharp, reviewers recommend the Global G-2 (*Est. $115) . The more budget-friendly sister model, the Mac Superior Santoku (*Est. $65) also comes highly recommended.
CookingForEngineers.com recommends the Mac Professional Mighty Chef in a hands-on test, but this review is several years old. About.com's guide to gourmet food, Brett Moore, identifies it as one of the best chef's knives on the market, and it also makes a list of top Japanese knives in Food & Wine magazine. About 30 owners review this knife at Amazon.com, where it earns a nearly perfect average score. It has a handful of positive reviews at ChefTalk.com as well.

Michael Chu, the website's founder, conducts a detailed and objective test of 11 popular chef's knives, including two versions of the Mac Professional Mighty Chef. Although the Global 20 cm Cook's Knife performs best in cutting tests, the 8-inch Mac Professional Mighty Chef with dimples is Chu's choice because of its more comfortable grip.
