Cocoon Laptop Sleeve

Some sleeves are clearly designed to be carried inside a larger case. This one is made to be carried outside, and it shows: durable materials, sturdy construction and adequate padding make this more of a traditional case in miniature than a sleeve.

ProsSturdy construction, Separate slot for tablet, Shoulder strap includedConsNo carrying handle, Only holds small laptops, Less slim than some cases

Comfort: A well-padded shoulder strap and lightweight bag are pluses, but a little thicker than some interior sleeves.

Users and reviewers find the Cocoon CLS456 sleeve easy to carry with the included wide shoulder strap, but note that it is thicker than many standard sleeves. Some reviewers note the sleeve lacks a top carrying handle for those who do not want to use the shoulder strap.

Appearance: Simple and plain.

Reviewers say styling is not why you'll buy the Cocoon sleeve; it's not objectionable but it is plain-Jane, with nothing special to recommend it visually.

Warranty: A surprisingly short warranty, but users report you won't need it.

The Cocoon CLS456 sleeve comes with just a single year of warranty in a product category that routinely guarantees products for life. That said, at this price point you'd be unlikely to hang onto a receipt for that long, and users say they don't have durability-related issues that would require warranty repair.

Features: A well-made bag -- but is it more than you need in a sleeve?

If you need to carry both a mini-laptop and a tablet, reviewers say the Cocoon sleeve is an excellent value. If you do not, you may be better off with a less expensive, thinner sleeve, although according to reviews the construction on this model is worth the price.

Bottom Line: Top pick in the field if you need a sleeve for both a small laptop and a tablet.

If you only carry a laptop, the WaterField Designs Laptop SleeveCase is a better bag, albeit more expensive.

Cocoon CLS456 13-inch Laptop Case Review, Dan Ackerman, Aug. 1, 2011

The Cocoon CLS456 sleeve is a small case that can hold both a 13-inch laptop and a tablet, and is extremely useful for people who need both, Dan Ackerman of CNET writes. The basic design is plain and not particularly appealing, and there's little room for power adapters and accessories, as with most sleeves. The site awards 3.5 stars out of 5.
