Experts suggest looking elsewhere if gaming is your top priority, but that all other users, and especially those that want a great multimedia (DVD and Blu-ray) experience, should be pleased with the Acer Aspire 8920G. The 18.4-inch widescreen provides a perfect 16:9 aspect ratio for viewing high-def video content, and there's a built-in Blu-ray player. The built-in 5.1-channel virtual sound system and well-placed speakers provide the best integrated audio of any laptop. If you prioritize gaming over Blu-ray, the Dell XPS M1730 (*est. $2,000 and up) is recognized as one of the top performers in that regard, though the upgrades needed for the very best performance can add up quickly.

We saw lots of feedback for the Acer Aspire 8920G laptop, and most of it is positive. NotebookCheck.net has the most comprehensive testing, but can be difficult for many to decipher. Among mainstream reviewers, Laptop Magazine does a commendable job, while PCMag.com and ComputerShopper.com weigh in with their own credible efforts. TrustedReviews.com adds a British viewpoint.

Our Sources

1. Notebook Check.net

NotebookCheck.net's reviews are translated from German and can be a challenge to read. The effort is worthwhile, however, as no reviewer subjects notebooks to more thorough testing. A weighted rating helps visitors compare the Acer Aspire 8920G to other laptops.

2. Laptop Magazine

This review of the Acer Aspire 8920G is one of Laptop Magazine's better efforts. It goes into great detail and includes discussion of performance testing -- though it would be better still if that testing was completely documented. The Acer laptop earns an Editors' Choice award here.

3. PCMag.com

Cisco Cheng's review of the Acer Aspire 8920G isn't as detailed as those above, but manages to cover most important considerations. Results of benchmark testing, and how it compares to the results from similar laptops, are included.

4. Computer Shopper

ComputerShopper.com's review is competent, but falls behind those listed above. Discussion is on the short side, and while performance testing is discussed, it is not completely documented. The Acer's brilliant display and multimedia performance is a plus, even if 3-D gaming isn't great.

5. TrustedReviews.com

Britain's TrustedReviews.com finds enough niggles to withhold giving the Acer Aspire 8920G an unqualified recommendation. But the site adds that it is an excellent performer that provides a very good video-watching experience. The review is competent, and testing is fully documented.
