The Chevrolet Tahoe is considered to be a top choice for large SUVs, with almost universal praise for its comfortable high-quality interior, smooth ride, powerful engines and strong towing capacity. The Tahoe comes in three different trim levels with a variety of available options. Engine power and fuel economy are considered good by reviewers, and the optional 5.3-liter V-8 (14 mpg city / 20 mpg hwy) features fuel-saving technology that runs the truck on four cylinders when driving conditions allow it. One of the Tahoe's chief competitors is the Toyota Sequoia *Est. $34,150 to $52,375, which has a slightly more-comfortable rear seat.

The Chevrolet Tahoe is available in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The four-wheel-drive system is unique in that it can be left engaged on dry pavement, although it includes low-range gearing suitable for off-roading. Reviewers report this system is handy for snow and ice, as well as for boat ramps and other tow jobs.

Reviewer complaints are few, and most relate to the Chevy Tahoe's four-speed automatic transmission; testers feel it is outdated and that it should be replaced with other available GM transmissions that have more gears. Another common complaint is due to the Tahoe's use of a live rear axle, which sacrifices rear seat and cargo space -- the third row in the Tahoe can't fold flat and must be removed to make full use of the cargo area.

Edmunds.com, Automotive.com and ConsumerGuide.com provide detailed reviews of the Tahoe. Consumer Reports magazine covers the Tahoe from its unique point of view, and Car and Driver magazine summarizes it in its 2008 buying guide. The 2008 Tahoe also earns a "Best Buy" rating from Consumer Guide.
