The Brother HL-2070N gets good reviews as a no-frills, personal-use, black-and-white laser printer for PCs and Macs. The HL-2070N is not designed for heavy office use. It has a maximum duty of 10,000 pages per month, half that of the Brother HL-5250DN (*est. $240). One nice feature is built-in wired networking. Unlike the Brother HL-5259DN, the HL-2070N does not have automatic duplex (both sides of a page) printing. But reviews say the print quality is very good on text-only pages and adequate on graphics and photos. The speed is good for the price – about 16 pages per minute on text-only pages.
Better Buys for Business tests almost every brand-name printer, but weeds out the older ones, so it covers the new HL-2170W instead of the HL-2070N. You'll need at least a free trial subscription to see it. Australia's Choice also puts its review behind a subscription wall, but X-bit Labs and PC Magazine offer coverage accessible to anyone. There are about 200 user reviews at Amazon.com, overwhelmingly positive save for normal complaints like paper curls and jams. Consumer Reports covers few monochrome printers, but ranks the HL-2170W, not the HL-2070N.
