Wal-Mart's house brand, Great Value Everyday Elegance 2X Ultra, cleans as well as or better than other laundry soap in comparison testing. As with all laundry detergents, the fragrance may not be to your liking. Everyday Elegance is a liquid soap formulated for standard washing machines. In general, Tide detergents receive the top marks for testing, although at more than twice the cost per load as Great Value Everyday Elegance 2X Ultra. The downside is that this laundry soap is only available at Wal-Mart. Another low-cost choice is Country Save Laundry Detergent Powder (*Est. 19 cents per load), a fragrance- and dye-free powder that can be used in either standard or high-efficiency washers. However, Country Save is hard to find; it's available online and at many Whole Foods stores.
Although we didn't find many reviews of Great Value Everyday Elegance 2X Ultra, it has received good marks in comparison testing with more-expensive detergents.
