The 24-inch-class Asus VH242H (the screen actually measures 23.6 inches) is considered to be a good performer among similarly sized monitors. Excellent colors are not significantly marred by grayscale performance that's stronger with dark shades than light. Pixel response is fast enough to make the VH242H a good choice for gaming and movie watching, and the 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution can display a high-def image in all its glory without scaling or cropping. We saw some grousing about the lack of USB ports, but the inclusion of an HDMI input (but not an HDMI cable, unfortunately) is a major plus considering this monitor's attractive price tag. The Asus VH242H has been outclassed by some newer monitors, but remains a solid buy.

HotHardware.com reviewer Daniel A. Begun says that the Asus VH242H is a solid performer at an attractive price that's "well below that of most other 24-inch or 23.6-inch LCD monitors" at the time of his review. (Others have since passed the Asus in pricing.) He notes the wide selection of image presets, but notes that in most cases they do little to improve upon the monitor's default settings.

John R. Delaney calls the Asus VH242H "an amazingly affordable 23-inch LCD monitor capable of displaying full HD (1080p) resolution." The review goes on to praise the VH242H's solid dark grayscale and color reproduction, as well as its motion handling and small-text rendering. Some shortfalls in light grayscale performance result in some slight loss of detail in test photos, however. The site awards the Asus VH242H 4 out of 5 stars.
