Two Thousand Dollar Paper Weight, Thanks Gateway!, November 11, 2009

As countless others have already detailed the horrors of both the terrible quality of this monitor after ~1 year of use, and the worst customer service you will probably ever experience in your life, I will keep this short. Thank you Gateway for being a complete sham of a company and selling two thousand dollar paper weights that act like monitors for a short period of time. All bitterness aside, a company that treats customers in this manner and sells horribly faulty products is destined to fail. Bitterness back on - I look forward to the day Gateway is out of business.

Good for one year, November 10, 2009
As other reviews say, this monitor is good for one year. Mine broke after a year and four months. Started with green banding, now has so much flickering that it cannot be used. I plan to complain to consumer reports about this monitor. The device seems to wait out your warranty, and then die.
Class action suit, October 6, 2009
I also am having the flickering issue after a year , luckily for me the product is still under warranty and gateway is repairing it for me.
I am sure the replacement is going to fail sooner or later

With so many people facing the same issue is there a way to file a class action suit against gateway.
Looks good on paper but has many issues, October 3, 2009

I purchased the monitor a year ago. The first one had a physical scratch on the monitor surface. After dealing with Gateway customer service I was given a "replacement" for my brand new monitor. Turns out they sent me a refurbished monitor with loose screws on the back as one of them was loose in the box. The monitor worked fine except for the commonly reported issue of it blanking out periodically which is frustrating as a gamer. This morning the monitor, just after the warranty expired, now flickers and has verticle lines as other reviewers have warned. This monitor is not worth the money. I have other Dell monitors that are far older that work fine and don't suffer the same quirks or design flaws. I will never purchase a Gateway product again.

Worst Customer Service I have experienced, September 4, 2009

Like many of the other reviewers my monitor died after 18 months. Gateway support is awful. I would expect much better from a $2000 product. I can't get anyone on the phone - I have to go through the live chat. Here is a transcript of my useless live chat: Jithu_GWSI376 joined the incident. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Welcome to Gateway Chat. My name and badge number are Jithu_GWSI376. I am looking at your account and the information you submitted. I will begin troubleshooting with you in just a moment. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Thank you for being online. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Can I confirm that the Serial Number is m1b7--------? DataV says: Yes, that is what is printed on the back of the monitor Jithu_GWSI376 says: From the serial number provided I see that the computer is Out of Warranty. As a One Time Best Effort I can provide you with some self help links to fix the issue. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Could you please brief the issue? DataV says: About a month ago the monitor started flickering. Today while it was on a vertical band of striped color appeared in the middle from top to bottom - the monitor is unusable. The video card and cable are fine, so the monitor is the problem. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Thank you for the information, Data. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Can I confirm that the issue is with Monitor? DataV says: Yes, the issue is definitely with the monitor. Even when the computer is not plugged it does the same thing. If you look at reviews at places like amazon you will see tha tthis is a common problem when the monitors are about a year old. I would expect much higher quality for 2000. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Thank you. Jithu_GWSI376 says: Please contact a Local Technician to resolve this issue. DataV says: That's all the help you can provide ? How about the name of a local technician in who will fix it ? Everyone I have contacted said that spare parts are not available from Gateway. Jithu_GWSI376 says: I apologize for any inconvenience or frustration caused by this issue. But this is the only option which we can inform you. We don't have information about Local Technician. DataV says: You have not given me any options. I now have a $2000 paper weight which nobody can fix. I purchase numerous items for my business. If this is the best you can do I will never purchase from Gateway again and I will make my experience VERY PUBLIC. Jithu_GWSI376 says: It was a pleasure working with you. Thank you for using Gateway Live Chat. Feel free to chat again anytime and have a great day.

1. ExtremeTech.com

This review says the Gateway XHD3000 has a superior video processor to those of the Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP and the HP LP3065, albeit for $200 to $300 more. Editors stress that this is a great screen for consumers, not professional graphics work.

2. PC World

PC World's review packages include lab test results, and there is direct comparison with the Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP and Samsung SyncMaster 305T. Bottom line is that the Gateway XHD3000 offers better controls and compatibility than competitors but the brightness can be a bit much.

3. CNET

CNet is dependable, unbiased and thorough and gives an Editors Choice designation to the Gateway XHD3000, despite some high-volume distortion on the built-in sound. A video review is included.

4. Computer Shopper

Computer Shopper gives the Gateway XHD3000 an Editors Choice award, saying it would make a great television if there were a tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. Stand adjustability is a big plus, the review says, but the one-year warranty is a bit skimpy.

5. MaximumPC.com

Maximum PC goes hands-on with the Gateway XHD3000, praising its onscreen display and even the built-in speakers. It's not a good choice for gamers, however, because of its slow speed.

6. NewEgg.com

About 50 owner reviews give the Gateway XHD3000 a high average score; only about 15 percent of users rate it lower than four out of five stars. Some note that the screen blacks out for a couple seconds -- frequently for some, a couple times daily for others (who say it's no big deal).

7. Amazon.com

There is just a handful of owner reviews, most either lukewarm or critical. Durability, compatibility and poor customer service are among the complaints.
