The Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW is the successor to the much-praised 2232BW, which reviews generally called the best value among 22-inch LCD widescreen monitors for general computer use. High satisfaction in owner reviews indicates no drop in quality, with the major complaints being a not-very-adjustable stand (a common complaint about monitors) and some bleeding around the edges of the display. The Samsung SyncMaster 2053BW is part of a well-received line that includes the 20-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2053BW (Discontinued) and the 24-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2443BWX (Discontinued), and all of them are praised for their versatility and solid performance on text, graphics, video and gaming. Reviews also say that the frame looks good but is prone to collect dust and fingerprints.
Review sources tend to cover just one or two of the aforementioned Samsung siblings, so it's worthwhile to read our reports on those other models. No professional reviews exist at this writing for the 2253BW, but there are plenty of owner reviews at Newegg.com and Amazon.com. We also include professional reviews for the older 2232BW by XbitLabs.com, the U.K.'s Which? magazine and BeHardware.com.

3. XBitLabs.com
XbitLabs.com tests a dozen 22-inch widescreen monitors, with the older Samsung 2232BW coming in second. The Samsung LCD monitor isn't tremendous in any area, but reviewer Oleg Artamonov calls it "free from drawbacks (for its class and its price, of course)."

4. Which.co.ukDetails/Subscribe
Which? magazine is at the British equivalent of Consumer Reports. The report covers the older Samsung 2232BW. Reviewers say the Samsung is a decent monitor for everyday use, but not the best choice for watching high-definition video or gaming because of a slow screen speed.
Review: PC Monitors: Get the Bigger Picture, Editors of Which?
BeHardware.com's Vincent Alzieu offers a very technical review roundup of about two dozen 22-inchers. The older Samsung 2232BW is one of just three recommended monitors -- "a great screen that is quite reactive, very attractive and with rather rudimentary ergonomics."
