2 Year Owner of This Model, August 29, 2008

Since I encountered my first major issue today, I got lost in "troubleshooting" links trying to find a solution, found loads of reviews on this monitor, but none of them were long time owners as I am, so I thought I'd add a piece. First let me say I've owned this SyncMaster 226bw since May of 2006, and I've had zero problems with it. I do not see any backlight bleeding, in fact, I've hunted for it on purpose trying to figure out exactly what that is. I have no light coming through the top or the bottom, and I have no dead pixels that I can see. I love the expansive desktop area. Great for multitasking, nothing takes up any space. I do dislike the setting buttons, they are kind of awkward, but in the end thats only cause I'm too lazy to figure out what they do, and I've only touched them twice (once when I got it, and today). I did once have an issue where I saw strange flickering type flecks, mainly on the borders of windows. This seems to have resolved itself, as I no longer see them. One major thing I should point out is that I never turn it off, since I never turn off my computer, I never go into standby, I do not use a screensaver of any kind. In 2+ years, its worked perfectly, constantly. Until today.. Today my power went out. So I unplugged everything, waited patiently for nearly 3 hours for the power to come back on, plugged everything back in, and powered up. The monitor blinked steady. Just blink blink blink, in and out. I could see the screen enough to hunt google for troubleshooting but found nothing. One post I found mentioned the backlight may be dying, that the screen will often blink for a while then finally just go out. So I quickly started searching how to go about replacing the backlight, when suddenly, it stopped... Not sure how long it went on for, few minutes I'm guessing, but its right back to perfect in my opinion. So! All in all, 2+ years, I've had 2 issues, both of which resolved themselves. Sounds like money well spent to me!

A Truly Awesome Monitor, August 25, 2008
Samsung is a wonderful company that makes a number of products that all seem to excel above others. My 60 inch DLP Hi-Def television is a Samsung. Our DVD player is a Samsung and so is our refrigerator. I have also used Samsung monitors for years now and the clarity and quality is fantastic; especially considering the price. I love this monitor and would highly recommend it.
[...]- Samsung LCD from gamer's POV, August 14, 2008

Pros: Extremely sharp picture, no annoying reflections from background light, absolutely no ghosting/input lag/tearing in video games (CS:S, BF2, DoD, Crysis to name a few), No dead pixels, Sexy design, 1 day shipping from Newegg :)....and I love how it has the sticker on the top right corner that says 2 MS and 8000:1 contrast ratio....thats just bragging rights!!!!! Cons: I am 100% satisfied...the only problem I had was a short DVI cable, but who cares, I used an old one. I have previously owned a 19"" viewsonic VX-927 @3ms, a 22"" dell @ 5ms, and a 24"" acer @ 6ms. Let me just say from a gamer's point of view, that this samsung LCD puts them ALL to shame. Other Thoughts: If you are a serious gamer, like me, and you are in the market for an LCD then DO NOT hesitate and buy this one. It is absolutely a delight to be able to see everything so sharply on the screen and to be able to make incredible shots due to your silky smooth screen. My specs: Quad core q9450 3.6 ghz, 9800gtx ssc, 4 gigs ram, vista ultimate 64.

Want a good monitor?, August 13, 2008

I had a Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19" LCD Monitor for my desk top Mac and wanted another monitor for my Intel MacBook so I could run Windows on a separate screen simultaneously with OS X on another. Thus I purchased the Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22" LCD Monitor and it is great. It works great as an extended monitor or in mirror mode. The monitor has great contrast ratio, clarity and resolution. I highly recommend a Samsung monitor for ease of setup, operation and sharpness. Reasonably priced as well.

Good Monitor Great Price, August 3, 2008
I am really impressed with this monitor. It arrived in great condition, easy to install. Didn't use the software disc, just atached the included HDMI cable and it worked great. I use the software that came with my video card to do all adjustments. I have a rock solid computer desk so the monitor is very stable. As usual the monitor arrived one day earlier than Amazon's expected delivery date.

3. XBitLabs.com

XbitLabs.com tests a dozen 22-inch widescreen monitors, with the older Samsung 2232BW coming in second. The Samsung LCD monitor isn't tremendous in any area, but reviewer Oleg Artamonov calls it "free from drawbacks (for its class and its price, of course)."

4. Which.co.uk

Which? magazine is at the British equivalent of Consumer Reports. The report covers the older Samsung 2232BW. Reviewers say the Samsung is a decent monitor for everyday use, but not the best choice for watching high-definition video or gaming because of a slow screen speed.

5. BeHardware.com

BeHardware.com's Vincent Alzieu offers a very technical review roundup of about two dozen 22-inchers. The older Samsung 2232BW is one of just three recommended monitors -- "a great screen that is quite reactive, very attractive and with rather rudimentary ergonomics."
