ViewSonic VX1940w LCD Monitor, November 18, 2009
Great LCD Monitor. Excellent price.
It has a "non-glare" screen which I prefer to the "Glossy" type.
ViewSonice VX1940W is Horrible, September 13, 2009

I read all the reviews about the VX1940W monitors, both on Amazon and on sites like CNet, and based on those reviews, I decided to purchase two of them to replace my older 21" Viewsonic glass monitors (CRTs). That was a huge mistake, so I returned them as soon as I could. I have since replaced them with Dell G2210s, and I am extremely glad that I did. I have an older, but heavily upgraded Dell desktop, with an NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS video card, a P4 3GB CPU, and 3Gb RAM. It easily handles most graphics and video intensive demands, only bumping into problems with the game Bioshock (not a great game anyway, so no big deal there). Aside from WinXP Pro SP3 and MS Office 2007, I use Photoshop CS3, Paintshop 11, and scads of other image and photo-editing tools. I use two monitors side-by-side, one connected via DVI the other via VGA. The Viewsonic monitors were horrible and to me, would only be good for something like digital aquarium displays. For office and photo-editing work, they were virtually worthless. 1. The color was off between the two and could not be made more than 'ok-close' even with help from the NVIDIA control panel, which I normally do not use. 2. The screens (on both) appeared splotchy against white or light-colored backgrounds, and nothing I could do would eliminate the problem. Essentially, the material used to make the monitor screen was not really clear, so against a white background it looked as though the document or photo was being looked at through a piece of not-so-clean glass, or through a very fine window screen. It actually looked like the document was pressed against the back of the monitor screen, and whenever I would scroll or move either the document or my head, I would see what looked like tiny gray clouds floating above the document. It is a VERY annoying 3-d effect that I have only seen before on some older CRTs. For what it's worth, I now have the G2210s set up and running, and they are performing perfectly, with nearly identical color on both (without any adjustments needed), and with nearly perfect screens. Because the displays are non-glare, there is still a little graininess against solid white backgrounds, but it is even and very fine, and is otherwise not seen unless I focus on it. VR

Review of ViewSonic 19 inch monitor, July 4, 2009
The monitor was exactly as advertised. It has a great picture. My only disappointment is that the screen is not adjustable. If this was mentioned in the product discription, I missed it.

Otherwise, a good monitor for a very good price.
My wife loves the ViewSonic 1940, December 7, 2008

Got this for my little bride, because she wanted to have her own computer. I lowered the screen for easier viewing by bolting the monitor's hinge directly to the round base, it was a simple mod. The screen is so beautiful, we both love it. A bad screen would have distracted from her interest in learning computers, so this did the trick! This would be perfect for hi-res games, but for now, she plays Sudoku only. She loves the hi-res for the grandkid pictures though...

The United Kingdom's Bit-Tech.net is oriented toward gamers, and text quality is ignored in its tests of LCD monitors. In his review of the ViewSonic VX1940w, Jeremy Laird says, "LAN gamers will appreciate the combination of high detail, speedy pixel response and compact, travel-friendly dimensions."

2. TrustedReviews.com

TrustedReviews.com is not the most critical of review sources in its assessments, providing numerical scores and little analysis beyond describing features. Andy Vandervell does more than that here, saying the ViewSonic VX1940w is fine for text, but disappointing on dark scenes for video and gaming.

Consumer Reports is one of the few general interest publications that still tests smaller LCD monitors. Eleven 19-inchers are ranked for image quality and ease of use, including the ViewSonic VX1940w. The article is free, but test results are available to subscribers only.

Britain's PC Pro magazine publishes very short reviews, but does its due diligence with hands-on use. The ViewSonic VX1940w makes the magazine's A List, but Bayon says the price is a bit too steep.

5. Custom PC

U.K. computer magazine Custom PC reviews a handful of monitors, putting them through their paces. The ViewSonic VX1940w gets a score of 73 percent. Reviewer James Morris says he prefers the Samsung SyncMaster 206BW because it offers more vibrant colors for nearly the same price.

6. Techtree.com

Reviewer Sudeep Naik gives the ViewSonic VX1940w 4.5 out of five stars and says the high resolution is worth the price, in part because of the excellent picture quality. It should be noted that the prices are not in U.S. dollars, as this is an Indian website.

7. Amazon.com

About a dozen owners give the ViewSonic VX1940 a high average score. Only a few users give the monitor low marks, primarily because they received defective products.
