The Insignia NS-L42X-10A is a budget-priced, 42-inch LCD television that's sold exclusively by Best Buy. In general, picture quality is competitive with all but the best LCD TVs, but picky viewers might want to look for higher-end alternatives. Some complain that the TV doesn't deliver the deepest blacks, and that light from the backlight makes some dark picture areas look cloudy Additionally, while all LCD TVs lose picture quality if you view them at an angle, the NS-L42X-10A is worse than most in that regard. The extensive two-year warranty is a plus that provides added piece of mind. Although user feedback is impressive, among less-expensive 42-inch LCD TVs, we did see stronger overall recommendations for the LG 42LH30 (*Est. $750), and that TV is even a bit less expensive.
Though there isn't a ton of feedback out there, ConsumerReports.org does provide a good testing-based review. DigitalTrends.com also weighs in with a report that's heavier on comment, but that's a little on the superficial side. User comments can be found at BestBuy.com.

The 42-inch Insignia NS-L-42Q-10A is one of 16 TVs rated in this size category; 26-inch and 32-inch versions of this model are also tested. The ratings provided are based on extensive testing, but discussion itself is on the short side and you'll need a subscription to see any of the information.

Though we see no signs of formal testing like that at ConsumerReports.org, it is clear that Nick Mokey has put the TV through its paces much like a typical user would. He notes some picture defects, but adds that the value is excellent.

As Insignia is a Best Buy brand, BestBuy.com is the top spot to read owner reviews, with around 40 at the last look. Impressively, every user thus far says that they would recommend the TV to a friend, and the 42-inch NS-L-42Q-10A earns an overall rating of 4.9 out of five stars.
