Samsung 40" B650 HDTV, November 16, 2009
Everything went well. Delivery was on schedule with the TV mounted on its base. I had no difficulty making the connections and am very pleased with the picture, especially for the HD channels.
Excellent picture quality, slow remote, November 3, 2009

I have owned this tv for almost 3 months now and I am completely satisfied with the picture quality. I have to admit that I had to change the picture settings before I could achieve the best picture quality. The only reason I have given this tv 4 star is because of the slow remote control operation. Samsung markets this tv with internet widgets but accessing and playing around with the widgets is so slow that soon you will give up. Other remote operations are very slow as well. Overall I am satisfied with this TV. Great value for the money.

Very nice picture...BUT, November 1, 2009

I purchased this TV because of the GREAT reviews here at Amazon & other websites. Only 1 thing, and a warning to everyone considering this TV. After owning this for less than 10 months, it started powering on & off after being on for 3-4 hours. I spoke to Samsung Customer Service, was told to reset the TV, unplug it from the surge protector I was protecing it with & plug directly into an outlet. In less than 1 week the situation got worse, so that it performed its on-off routine in 1.5 hours of being on. I Googled the problem, and found out that many were complaining of the same issue, and that these TV's are fitted with a bad power supply. Thank goodness it was still under factory warranty, as the service people came & took it in to replace the power supply (which, by the way has taken more than 2 weeks). It seems this problem has affected ALL Samsung LCD models, from 30" up to 50". The service guys actually told me to be sure I had an extended warranty, as even though Samsung has updated the power supply software, they could not assure me that this won't happen again. In the meantime, I am stuck without my beautiful TV for the 3rd Sunday in a row without being able to watch football on the big secreen. What a bummer! We asked what brand TV do they have to service less--Sony! Too bad we didn't spring for a bit more money & buy that one. Hopefully, this trip to the service people will solve the problem, but it's very worrisome that a new TV would go bad in such a short time. From what I have read while researching the problem, a lot of folks had this happen to them after their 1 year manufacturer's warranty was already up.

Very satisfied, October 27, 2009

I'd been looking for a second TV for quite a while, and researching different options. Liked the Sony models a lot, but also liked the Samsungs. This model has great color saturation, and a number of nice features that allow you to connect to web content such as You Tube. Samsungs have gotten criticism, probably deserved, for their sound quality in the past. However, in comparison to earlier models Samsung appears to have improved the sound. I think Sony still has the edge on sound, but on the other factors I felt this was equal or superior in quality, and I got more value for the price. Perfect size for a bedroom TV if you have the room. I bought this through Amazon Overstocks and was very satisfied with the unit and the delivery. The description said minor blemishes to the housing but I've yet to find one, and the discount factor over the regular Amazon price was significant.

Samsung LN40B650 HDTV, October 24, 2009

I love my new TV. It is the second Samsung I have purchased and will continue buying Samsung TV's in the future. The picture is great and I am enjoying all the extras. I was not too happy with the delivery service provided in Rhode Island. They didn't want to take it out of the box and plug it in to see if it worked. I told them that if they didn't make sure it worked, that they could just take it back.

1. TelevisionInfo.com

TelevisionInfo.com reviews the 40-inch Samsung LN40B650 in a report that's long and packed with tons of technical data -- perhaps too much for some potential buyers. Still, ratings are provided, comparisons are made, and conclusions are clearly stated. Some negatives are noted, such as a reflective screen, but those are outweighed by solid blacks and good -- though not perfect -- color performance.

2. CNET

CNET's evaluation of the LN40B650 is based on its review of the larger LN46B650, but David Katzmaier says that specifications -- other than screen size -- are identical, and performance should be as well. He has numerous complaints, including a reflective screen and black levels that don't quite live up to Samsung's better models. He also says that he's not a fan of the red-tinged bezel. However, he also adds that the LN40B650 still outperforms most other available LCD TVs.

3. ConsumerReports.org

ConsumerReports.org includes the 37-inch Samsung LN37B650 among the LCD TVs tested for the current listing. Although competent testing is performed, it's not extensively detailed. Opinions and conclusions are offered, but the discussion falls short of what can be found at more informative sites like CNET and TelevisionInfo.com.

4. Amazon.com

Over 30 owners weigh in on the 40-inch Samsung LN40B650 here, giving the TV a very high composite rating. Most owners award the TV with a rating of five out of five stars and say that picture quality is very good. The only completely negative review deals with a customer service issue regarding an apparently defective TV.

5. BestBuy.com

Nearly as many owners post comments about the 40-inch Samsung LN40B650 as at Amazon.com, and with a similar pattern of satisfaction. Positives and negatives differ in the eyes of different reviewers, but all but one says that they would recommend the TV to a friend.
