Worked great for 3 months, then it broke, August 22, 2009
Loved the tv and got it at a good price, but then after about 3 months it got into a state where it would work for about 30 mins, then the picture would go black with weird lines all over the place. Need to read more reviews before I buy cheap stuff :( Gonna go get a samsung tonight.
Seems to be a lot of the same problems., August 12, 2009

This pixel problem seems to be more prolific than I thought. The same thing happened to my TV. A couple months with an ok TV and then one night all the black colors somehow went red. Even for the inputs I play games on. Plus, even when it was working, for games at least, it's a bit laggy. All LCD's seem to a bit though. It's just that when I play online games, it REALLY matters and those little fractions of a second make all the difference.

black pixels turn red, August 9, 2009

I recently purchased a Vizio 47" hdtv. In less than 2 months all the black areas of the picture turned red. Vizio offered to send a repairman to my home. However, I didn't have time to wait for repairs on a 2 month old set. When I called Vizio tech support they were aware of the problem. What's up with that! Selling a TV with a know defect? Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and get a Sony or some other brand PS I returned my set to Costco and got the Sony 46" set. Better color picture etc

Do not buy this TV until you read this!!!!!!, June 22, 2009

This TV Broke almost 3 months after I bought it. The screen went green and I could not see anything on it. The repair man vizio sent to my house told me he had problems with his as soon as he took it out of the box. The TV could not be fixed so vizio sent me a refurbished one. I shelled out 1300 dollars and ended up with a refurb that is nothing more than a repaired set. At this point i'm just waiting for this one to break and start the cycle all over again. I am truly dissapointed with this company and will never buy anything from them again.

Worst TV Ever, June 9, 2009

Normally I don't pay too much attention to bad reviews. Products normally work, and I'm generally happy, so I was excited when I bought the TV. Two months later, when all the black pixels turned red, the excitement waned. I called the warranty department, and they said the TV was "dead on arrival", and they'd call me in two days to replace the TV. Three days later, they called and offered to repair the TV in three to five business days. After correcting them, they eventually said they'd replace the TV and call me in seven to ten business days to set up a date for the exchange. They said I wasn't getting screwed, I was getting a new TV! If only I could get my money back... I regret not purchasing a name brand TV.

Where To Buy

Our Sources

1. CNET

The Vizio SV470XVT has accurate colors, good uniformity and good adjustability, but blacks are not as deep as on more expensive LCD panels. and the decline in off-angle performance is noticeable, according to reviewer David Katzmaier. Still, the Vizio SV470XVT is a good value, he says, and it includes advanced features, such as a 120Hz refresh rate, that are usually only found on more expensive sets. CNET tests many televisions and its reviews tend to be quite critical. The few user reviews here rate the TV even higher than does Katzmaier.

2. PC World

PC World rates the Vizio SV470XVT as the third-best 46/47-inch TV in any technology, including plasma. Unfortunately, the report is short on details and the testing is not described as much depth as at CNET. According to Lincoln Spector, "low price and appealing image quality" are this TV's greatest strengths.

3. HDTVSolutions.com

Dick De Jong reviews the smaller Vizio SV420XVT, which should perform similarly to the Vizio SV470XVT. He is impressed with the performance, and adds that tweaking the TV to match the video source is worth the effort for best results. He's also pleasantly surprised by the built-in audio system.

4. HDTVExpert.com

Technology expert Peter Putman also reviews the Vizio SV470XVT's smaller-screened sibling, the Vizio SV420XVT. Though not overly long, this review is technically sophisticated yet still accessible for the non-videophile. Putman is impressed with overall performance, but, like others who have weighed in on these LCD TVS, he's disappointed by black levels and off-angle viewing.
