The LSW120 is part of a new series of Black & Decker outdoor power tools that use 20-volt Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries; the batteries are interchangeable among all of the new tools. Li-ion batteries are lighter than the Ni-Cd batteries used by, for example, the older Black & Decker NS118 blower; as a result, the LSW120 weighs only 3.8 pounds. Black & Decker says the Li-ion battery holds a charge longer as well, but owners dispute this, saying both types of batteries hold a charge for about 15 minutes. The Black & Decker LSW120 is quiet at 66 decibels. If you'd rather buy a cordless blower that's been in use for longer and has accumulated more reviews, the Black & Decker NS118 (*Est. $70) cordless sweeper costs a little less and gets excellent ratings from owners.

The editors of ToolSnob.com received two of Black & Decker's new 20-volt power tools, a cordless string trimmer and the LSW120 cordless sweeper, to try out and review. They describe the LSW120 as "fantastic," saying it is perfect for blowing debris off of paved surfaces without raising a cloud of dust. They used it to blow sawdust off a gravel driveway and say it got rid of the sawdust while leaving the gravel in place.

Owners note that the Li-ion battery doesn't seem to last any longer than the NS118's Ni-Cd battery did but that the power doesn't fade gradually as you use the blower.
