Tumi Alpha Frequent Traveler 22-inch Framed Expandable Carry-on

Luxury rolling luggage
- Durable ballistic nylon
- Expandable
- Convenient, thoughtful features
- Expensive
- Relatively heavy
- Short warranty
Tumi Alpha luggage is very costly, but experts say it will last you a lot longer than many less expensive rolling luggage brands. In one leading test, the Tumi Alpha Frequent Traveler 22-inch Framed Expandable Carry-on outperforms all 11 competitors, earning the highest possible ratings in every category -- roominess, convenience and durability. Tumi constructs its entire Alpha line out of tough ballistic nylon, with thoughtful features like removable garment sleeves to reduce wrinkles. However, the carry-on is relatively heavy (11.6 pounds) and users say it can be awkward to wrestle into the overhead bin. Tumi's one-year damage/five-year defect warranty pales next to the lifetime luggage warranties that other manufacturers offer. For example, the Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 (*Est. $230) carries an unlimited lifetime warranty, even against airline damage.
ConsumerReports.org and SmartMoney magazine both include rolling Tumi Alpha suitcases in their head-to-head luggage tests. Wired's top rating goes to a non-wheeled Tumi Alpha piece. Real Simple magazine also recommends a Tumi rolling carry-on, and owners at LuggageOnline.com and FlyerTalk.com recommend the Tumi brand in general.
