Budget instant-read thermometer

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Accurate
  • Wide temperature range
  • Automatic shutoff
  • Waterproof
  • Five-year warranty
Cons
  • Not compact
  • Some durability concerns
  • Slower readings than others

Reviewers say the CDN ProAccurate Quick-Read Thermometer is accurate and registers a temperature range of -40 to 450 degrees F in about 10 seconds. Unlike many thermometers, it is waterproof and can be recalibrated. It has an "on/off" switch and automatically turns off after 10 minutes to preserve the life of the 1.5-volt battery. The limited warranty is five years, which is a lot longer than other thermometers covered in this report. If you need a thermometer that registers higher than 450 degrees F, the Thermoworks Super-Fast Thermapen (*Est. $85) has a range up to 572 degrees and gets excellent reviews.
