Bad design or quality: a dud., September 5, 2009
We got a lemon,

It works, but only for 4 weeks.
Now it shuts off after 1-3 minutes of cooking without warning or beeping or message of any kind: just - off...

Back it goes... Bye bye GE...
A Lemon, Don't Buy It !!!, September 5, 2009

I purchased this microwave in December 2006. On September 9, 2009 it totally went out. My problem seems to be the same as others are describing in these reviews - a problem with the inverter technology or "inverter board." It has poor reliability and a high failure rate. The inverter technology is great while it lasts, but the oven goes out after a couple of years. Since it is past the 1-year warranty, it is my tough luck. I called GE Customer Service to get them to recommend an authorized repair facility in my town. The representative was unbelievably rude - claiming that my only option was for them to send one of their technicians to my house. That was not an acceptable solution because: 1) It was way too expensive for a home visit, and 2) I could not take a day off work (and lose a day's pay) to be there. It would be less expensive to just purchase another microwave. Needless to say, after this experience, I will never purchase another GE microwave - or any other GE product based on how rude the customer service representative was to me. I thought GE was supposed to be a quality brand? My previous (much less expensive) microwave lasted 15 years - and it wasn't even supposed to be a quality brand (a Sharp). I strongly advise against purchasing this microwave. When you pay that much for an appliance, it should last more than two years. It seems GE is engaging in a very unethical business practice. So many people are experiencing the same problem I did. GE has to know these ovens go out after a couple of years. Then they try to suck you into giving them more money to repair or replace them - and they try to manipulate you into those expensive home service calls. I think we should all boycott GE.

died in just 3 months, August 23, 2009
I will never buy anything again without reading Amazon's review. Wish I had READ Walter's review before I lugged this monster home. At least the turn table goes around when it doesn't heat the food. And we do get excitment waiting to see if it is going to shut down or cook the food. Serious note, the top of the microwave gets extremely warm. That can't be a good sign.
stopped working after 45 days of very light use., February 8, 2009

Recently remodeled my kitchen and picked this unit based mostly on looks. I use a microwave mostly for warming up a cup of coffee or the occasional pizza slice (very light use). After owning it for just 45 days, it started smoking and then just cut off it's power while reheating some pasta. Fortunately I was able to return this piece of junk and get a refund. After doing a quick search on the web, I've heard of this exact same problem happening to other unhappy GE customers. One person claimed it started a fire. I have don't know if this is possible, but my GE microwave produced quite a bit of smoke before it turned itself off.

Massive paperweight, January 7, 2009

I bought a GE Profile microwave as a present for my family. Not even a month after its purchase, the unit has failed. The turntable rotates, but doesn't heat food. I double-checked the power level to make sure that it was on the right settings. The terrible thing is that this was not the first issue I had with a GE appliance, and I didn't learn from my first mistake. I am continually surprised and shocked at the absolute unreliability of this company. If you value your money, invest in a cheaper, smaller microwave.
