Where to Buy

The Sharp R-530E is a countertop microwave with a generous 2-cubic-foot capacity and a 16-inch turntable that can accommodate nearly any dish. It offers 1,200 watts of cooking power and a wide variety of cooking programs, including 13 sensor settings for everything from poultry to popcorn. It also offers auto defrosting and reheating, and its keep-warm plus feature will keep food warm for up to 30 minutes. However, like most full-size microwaves, it has a large footprint -- roughly 24 inches by 19 inches.

Most users find this microwave's sensors accurate, especially for popcorn. However, a few say they can be unreliable, overheating food or leaving hot and cold spots. Some also find this model too noisy. Available in black, white or stainless-steel finishes, the Sharp R-530E is backed by a one-year warranty; the magnetron tube (the element that generates microwave energy) is covered for five years.

The Sharp R-530E earns top marks from a reviewer at ConsumerGuide.com. It also receives fairly high average ratings from about 50 users at Epinions.com and Viewpoints.com. Buzzillions.com, a site that pulls reviews from various sites, has another dozen or so reviews for this microwave.
