Microwaves with convection technology use a small fan to circulate hot air through the interior of the oven; this helps to brown food, yielding crispier french fries and crunchier pizza crust. The Sharp R-820JS receives excellent reviews. Experts point out, however, that the Sharp's convection fan takes up extra space inside the oven, so although this oven's interior capacity is a compact 0.9 cubic feet, it still requires a good amount of countertop space. If you're not that interested in a microwave/convection combo, consider the Sharp R-305KS (*est. $120), a similarly sized standard microwave that takes up less counter space.
