The Sharp R-930 is a large countertop microwave that includes a convection oven, which enables it to grill, roast and bake like a standard oven. It is somewhat less roomy than the top-rated Sharp R-530E, with 1.5 cubic feet of interior space, and it also has a larger footprint (24.6 inches by 19 inches). In addition, its microwave power is low for a full-size microwave -- only 900 watts -- which means that food takes longer to cook in microwave mode. However, it does boast a variety of sensor settings for cooking, defrosting and reheating.
Users say it is a versatile performer that excels at many cooking tasks, although in one professional test its cooking evenness is only so-so. Professionals and users agree, however, that this model can be hard to use, as its touchpad controls are not intuitive. We saw some complaints about durability for this microwave; users seemed especially frustrated by Sharp's warranty, which requires the owner to take the microwave to an authorized shop for repairs. The Sharp R-930 comes in black, white or stainless steel.
The Sharp R-930 is one of 32 countertop microwaves reviewed at ConsumerReports.org, which conducts detailed tests and summarizes the results in a handy chart. It is also rated a Best Buy at ConsumerGuide.com. We found over 100 user reviews for this microwave at Amazon.com, and Buzzillions.com compiles another 65 ratings from various other retail sites.
