The 2.5-cubic-foot Danby DAR259 mini fridge measures 27 inches high, short enough to be kept under a desk or counter but larger than cube fridges, which generally review poorly. The Danby fridge lacks a freezer section, seemingly a plus for owners as most reviews we read for this model praised Danby for omitting the freezer. Refrigerator-only units have more room for food and drinks and use less energy. The Danby DAR259 compact refrigerator also has versatile storage options, including three shelves, a can dispenser and 2-liter bottle storage in the door. It's available in white as the Danby DAR259W and black as the Danby DAR259BL. If you'd like a larger mini fridge, the GE Spacemaker GMR04BAN (*Est. $200) has a 4.3-cubic-foot capacity and includes a freezer.
The Danby DAR259 mini fridge isn't included in professional tests, but in late 2009 it was awarded second place in Bestcovery.com's list of the best mini fridges for dorm rooms. We also found many owner reviews for this model at retailer websites such as Walmart.com, ABT.com, AJMadison.com and CompactAppliance.com.
