2007 Saturn Relay

pros
  • Like all GM minivans from past model years, the 2007 Saturn Relay has a good package of standard options, including OnStar communications, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system on some models and a unique rear-obstacle detection system.
cons
  • The '07 Saturn Relay is not as well-mannered in highway driving as its competitors. Other shortfalls include the lack of available side airbags for all three rows. Also, based on repair data and owner surveys, the Saturn's overall reliability is low compared to the competition.

Reviewers said the Saturn Relay falls short of the competition in terms of handling, comfort, fit/finish and overall reliability. Owner satisfaction scores have been low, and problems have been reported with the interior fit and finish (squeaks and rattles), power equipment and brakes. 2005 and 2006 Relay vans have had trouble with engine noise and stalling.

The Saturn Relay, which was last manufactured for the 2007 model year, was part of the now-defunct GM family of minivans. Edmunds.com posted the most credible review of the 2007 Saturn Relay, and editors did the best job comparing it to the competition. Road and Travel magazine did not review the Relay after the 2005 model year.

Our Sources

1. Edmunds.com

Edmunds.com did the best job of rating the Saturn Relay minivan in relation to its peers. They noted that the 2007 Relay's larger (3.9-liter) V6 engine makes the minivan more competitive, and praised its well-designed interior and fairly smooth ride. Road noise was an issue, though, as was the lack of standard side airbags for the third row of seats.

2. ConsumerReports.org

Editors at Consumer Reports didn't actually test the 2007 Saturn Relay, but rather a sister vehicle, the Chevrolet Uplander. Included, however, are the results of Consumer Reports' annual reader surveys on auto reliability and satisfaction.

3. ConsumerGuide.com

Consumer Guide editors select a number of cars each year for "Best Buy" or "Recommended" labels, but the reviews themselves are hard to read. Instead of a narrative review, editors provide a chart of numerical ratings with one or two comments. The site is a good place to find detailed specification information on the Saturn Relay and other 2007 minivans, however, and included is a list of repair problems and recalls for prior model years.

4. Road and Travel.com

This write-up for the 2007 Saturn Relay focuses exclusively on features, and it wasn't clear if the minivan was actually road-tested.
