Reviews praise the Ridgid MS1065LZA as the best value among 10-inch compound miter saws, which can cut up to 2-by-6 lumber. Reviews like the all-metal build and lifetime warranty, and say this miter saw has excellent accuracy, fit and finish, as well as user-friendly features such as an erasable fence. This newest version has an adjustable laser, and like the earlier Ridgid MS1065LZ, bevels and miters beyond 45 degrees -- especially useful for remodeling, where you may need to fit boards to odd angles. If you need to cut a lot of vertical molding, however, consider the DeWalt DW713 (*Est. $220), though it lacks a laser guide.

The Ridgid MS1065LZA has an adjustable laser, but we also found relevant reviews of the older Ridgid MS1065LZ -- identical except for a nonadjustable laser guide. We found the best review at ConsumerReports.org, where the LZ model is ranked in comparison with 12 other compound miter saws based on objective tests. The LZA model is reviewed by owners (often after months or more than a year of use) at Amazon.com and HomeDepot.com. The review at Bestcovery.com also covers the newer LZA model but seems to confuse it with the earlier model -- which is also reviewed at ConsumerGuide.com, Homeowner's Blog and Builder News. Earlier comparison tests at Wood Magazine cover an older Ridgid miter saw, but some of the same criticisms are noted in reviews of the Ridgid MS1065LZA.

1. ConsumerReports.org

This review compares the earlier Ridgid MS1065LZ -- now the MS 1065LZA -- with 12 other compound miter saws. Rankings are based on objective tests of accuracy, speed, ease of use and edge finish.

2. Amazon.com

The handful of owners reviewing the Ridgid MS1065LZA here give it rave reviews, with the exception of one who apparently got a lemon that can't be adjusted for accuracy. Most owners say it's a great value and performs well. One notes that although the dust bag doesn't work well, you can attach a vacuum to the saw.

3. HomeDepot.com

The Ridgid MS1065LZA earns similar reviews here, with most owners giving it the highest possible rating, but one exchanging a lemon and finding the table uneven on the replacement as well. He also finds design problems that make straight, accurate cuts difficult.

4. Bestcovery.com

This reviewer gives the Ridgid MS1065LZA top ranking among 10-inch compound miter saws but seems to base this primarily on reviews from Amazon.com. No testing or usage is documented, and the review is mistaken in saying that the laser on this LZA model is nonadjustable.

5. ConsumerGuide.com

This review, based on brief testing, gives the Ridgid MS 1065LZ the highest possible ratings for performance and value, and near-perfect ratings for features and ease of use. (This is the earlier model with a nonadjustable laser.)

Review: Ridgid 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw MS1065LZ, Editors of ConsumerGuide.com, June 3, 2008

6. Homeowners Blog

This review of the earlier Ridgid miter saw (with the nonadjustable laser guide) is brief but useful because it is based on two years of homeowner use. The reviewer praises the Ridgid MS1065LZ for remodeling and building projects and notes that plumbers use it for cutting PVC pipe. But he notes that the size limits it to cutting 2-by-6 lumber.

7. Builder News

This review of 10-inch miter saws compares the earlier Ridgid MS1065LZ with models by DeWalt, Hitachi and Rockwell. The saws aren't ranked or rated, but the Ridgid saw earns praise for its laser guard (as a "must have"), clear miter scale with crown cut markings, wide base and large table area. Operation is smooth and solid.

8. Wood Magazine

This thorough, objective but outdated review judges the earlier Ridgid MS1060 a "mixed bag" compared with ten other 10-inch compound miter saws, finding that the bevel scale is hard to read and bevel adjustment is stiff. DeWalt and Milwaukee models ace the tests here.
