Cuisinart CHM-3

Pros
  • According to owners and experts, the Cuisinart is a good basic hand mixer, with a helpful "power boost" feature and easy to clean beaters.
Cons
  • We did read a comment that the Cuisinart hand mixer's low speed isn't low enough, sending flour flying.

The Cuisinart CHM-3 looks to be a good basic hand mixer according to professional reviews and users, and it gets much better scores than the cheaper Hamilton Beach Power Deluxe 62695 (*est. $20). The CHM-3 has just three speeds, but most say you don't really need more. However, we did find one owner who notes that the Cuisinart's low speed is a bit too powerful. Overall, the CHM-3 looks like the best bet in a basic hand mixer. The similar Cuisinart CHM-7 (*est. $50) gets better reviews overall, but it costs more and is harder to find in stores.

The Cuisinart CHM-3 hand mixer's most ringing endorsement comes from the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, where it's judged best of eight competing hand mixers. We looked for testing at Consumer Reports or Cook's Illustrated that might corroborate these results, but neither publication has tested this particular Cuisinart hand mixer (although both have tested the similar seven-speed Cuisinart CHM-7). We did find a good range of owner-written reviews at Amazon.com, and a few more at Cooking.com.

Our Sources

1. Good Housekeeping

Although editors don't tell us exactly how hand mixers were tested, testers say the three-speed Cuisinart CHM-3 was the best out of eight models when blending cookie dough. A power-boost feature automatically ups the power when the mixer starts to struggle, a feature liked by editors.

2. Amazon.com

We didn't find much criticism at Amazon.com for the Cuisinart CHM-3 hand mixers. Owners say this basic blender is reliable and effective, and a great value. We did read one comment that it's low speed isn't quite low enough.
