Reviews say that the KitchenAid Professional 600 is a rock-solid stand mixer that can stand up to the stiffest cookie batter and the stickiest bread dough without hesitating. It's easy to scrape down the sides of the 6-quart wide bowl and, with 575 watts, this machine makes quick work of blending ingredients. Its only flaw (according to one expert) is its long dough hook, which bores into dough, making kneading more difficult. Top reviewers say that the Cuisinart 5.5 Quart Stand Mixer (*est. $350) may supplant the Professional 600 as king of the stand mixers: It is just as powerful as the Professsional 600, with state-of-the-art features such as a fold function and touchpad speed controls.
We read professional comparison reviews of the KitchenAid Professional 600 stand mixer at Consumer Reports and Cook's Illustrated. Hundreds of owners have posted reviews of the Professional 600 at Amazon.com, Cooking.com and Epinions.

Although the KitchenAid Professional has been a fixture in their kitchens since 2005, editors at Cook's say they'll be replacing it with the newer Cuisinart 5.5 Quart Stand Mixer, which has touchpad controls and a digital timer. The KitchenAid's long dough hook had difficulty kneading bread dough thoroughly.

In this older review, editors say that the KitchenAid Professional 600 is the standing mixer to beat; it sailed through all their tests. The 6-quart bowl is just the right size, say editors, with a spacious bottom surface that makes it less likely that ingredients will be flung to the sides and remain unincorporated.
