CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is a great option for normal to dry or sensitive skin, and it can be used on both the face and the body. It contains several ingredients that help restore the skin's barrier function -- allowing it to retain moisture more effectively. It doesn't contain sunscreen, however. A separate SPF formula is recommended for daytime use. CeraVe is comparable to Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (*Est. $13 for 16 oz.) in its merits for sensitive skin, but it isn't included in professional reviews as often. For this reason, we chose to list Cetaphil as a top product.
Gentle and soothing. Skin care expert Paula Begoun says CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is "a basic but thoughtfully formulated …" moisturizer. It doesn't contain antioxidants but has several beneficial ingredients -- namely glycerin, ceramides and cholesterol. They all help restore and maintain the skin's barrier function, according to Begoun. She gives it her highest rating because of its "merit for sensitive skin." Hundreds of users at Drugstore.com give CeraVe a perfect 5-star rating because it soothes their dry, sensitive skin and improves skin texture over time. One user says, "It seems to moisturize from deep down under the skin. …" Several say the moisturizer is also good for those with eczema.
Goes on smoothly. Reviewers at Drugstore.com say CeraVe has a more fluid consistency than most other creams. The texture makes it easy to apply, and users say it goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly and isn't greasy. One user explains: "… it feels 'wet' and kind of cold when you first apply it -- nice -- refreshing." Furthermore, the cream is fragrance-free, which is especially beneficial for those with sensitivities. Some users say the cream is a bit messy due to its jar packaging.
