CeraVe Moisturizing Facial Lotion AM Review

Facial moisturizer for dry/sensitive skin

Pros
  • Fragrance free
  • Gentle
  • Light; silky texture
  • Won't clog pores
Cons
  • Lacks antioxidants
  • Not the broadest spectrum sun protection

Bottom line

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM is an excellent daytime moisturizer with broad spectrum UV protection. It's loaded with good-for-skin ingredients and feels great on the skin. It's often recommended for those with dry or sensitive skin by experts and users. Even though it has an SPF of 30, one expert source says it doesn't quite have the broad-spectrum protection some people may need, and it lacks antioxidants. Still, if your skin is very dry or reacts to practically everything, this is one to try.

Breaking it down

Performance

Soothes and protects. Experts praise CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM for its skin-identical ingredients, which include ceramides and hyaluronic acid as well as niacinamide. However, in spite of its seemingly high SPF rating, skin care expert Paula Begoun says it does not have the broad-spectrum protection of other moisturizers and lacks an antioxidant that would boost your skin's ability to fight sun damage. Users don't seem as concerned, noting that this product is sufficient sun protection for everyday use. People with dry skin rave about its soothing and moisturizing qualities, saying those positive affects last for hours. One expert review calls it a "hydrating powerhouse." Those with sensitive skin say it does not cause breakouts or redness, and, indeed, can help calm their skin when it feels irritated.

Feel and smell

Elegant, lightweight texture. Begoun says CeraVe AM is a lightweight formula with a lotion-like texture that "feels elegant and wears well under makeup." Another expert review says it feels light and silky in spite of its fairly high sun protection factor. A number of user reviewers say this was recommended to them by their dermatologist for ultra-moisturizing and they're amazed at how effective it is in spite of not being a heavy cream. One of its most popular features is that it's completely fragrance-free, which is rather unusual as most beauty products have at least some slight scent, particularly in this price range.
