Bottom line

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM is designed for nighttime use, but it can also be used during the day when paired with a separate SPF formula. It's has a very high-quality blend of skin-identical ingredients and is an excellent emollient, experts say. It's recommended for normal to dry skin and is also appropriate for sensitive or rosacea-affected skin due to its gentle, fragrance-free formula.

Breaking it down

Performance

Gentle and moisturizing. Skin care expert Paula Begoun says CeraVe PM has an "outstanding blend of emollients and skin-identical ingredients" that help to maintain the skin's external structure and moisture. It also contains "generous" amounts of niacinamide, according to Begoun, and provides a substantial amount of moisture. The only drawback, she says, is the "lack of antioxidants. A number of reviewers say they add an antioxidant serum. Many say they use this for daytime as well, adding a product with sun protection, although, there are plenty of people who prefer no sun protection in their moisturizer and just use this as their regular daytime product.

Feel and smell

Creamy but lightweight. Begoun praises CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM for its fragrance-free formula. She says it has a lightweight cream-like texture. User say it absorbs quickly, so never feels greasy and they love its gel-like consistency. Users say it's thin and non-sticky with a very pleasant texture that feels very light when it dries. While this is most often recommended for normal or sensitive skin, one expert reviewers says it's deceptively light-feeling and would be a great choice for anyone who prefers a heavier emollient. However, we found a few negative reviews who said it wasn't nearly heavy enough for their very dry skin.
