The Iron Horse Warrior 4.0 is a great mountain bike for those who want something more than a department-store cheapie but don't want to go whole hog on a $3,000 enthusiast bike. In reviews, owners say the hardtail (meaning it has front suspension only) Warrior is extremely comfortable; suitable for long rides with a roomy layout. Component quality is said to be good for the price, and you can always upgrade later. The major downside in reviews is this mountain bike's heavy weight of about 37 pounds, which makes it less nimble on challenging trails. Still, that makes it a good choice for all-day rides or even as a commuter bike, in a pinch. If you don't want to spend as much (and are prepared to upgrade some components sooner rather than later), consider the Trek 3700 (*MSRP: $380), a favorite starter mountain bike in reviews.

MountainBikeTales.com features an excellent review based on expert testing on several types of terrain. The editors give an objective view of the Warrior, including both pros and cons. Another good source of information on the Warrior is MTBR.com, where more than 30 users offer information on strengths and weaknesses, giving the Iron Horse Warrior four out of five stars.
