- Inexpensive
- Lightweight
- Good sound quality
- Good file support
- So-so FM tuner
- Poor-quality earbuds
Those looking for a cheap MP3 player that still provides decent sound and features will be hard pressed to find a better alternative than the SanDisk Sansa Clip, experts say. Sound quality is surprisingly good, especially considering its small size and tiny price tag. Features include an FM tuner that you can record from, a voice recorder and a clip, which makes it a great companion for the gym or for jogging. The tiny OLED screen can't display video or photos, but makes navigating through menus and tracks easy. The new SanDisk Sansa Clip+ (*Est. $50 for 4 GB) receives excellent reviews, and experts say it's better than the Sansa Clip. The Sansa Clip+ adds a sturdier design and microSD memory card slot to expand your song capacity.
The SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 player is well-reviewed in the U.S. and abroad. Among U.S. reviewers, it earns the most praise from CNET, which backs its rating with a well-detailed review. PCMag.com is a little less effusive but still largely positive in its testing-backed report. For views from the rest of the world, reports at Australia's Good Gear Guide and Britain's TrustedReviews.com are very well done.

This report, which was updated in Nov. 2008 to reflect a firmware upgrade that increased file compatibility, is nicely detailed. Jasmine France says sound quality is great, features are plentiful and value is high. Poor FM reception and problems with connection to Rhapsody are named negatives.

Buggy bundled software and "horrible" earbuds aren't enough to offset the value provided by the SanDisk Sansa Clip, according to this testing-backed review. Sound quality and good features make the overall picture even more attractive.
