The Canon Pixma MG8120 is a photo-centric multifunction device rather than one meant for the office. It does not include a fax or an automatic document feeder, two useful features found on office MFPs. However, it does offer a wide range of printing and scanning options. It can scan and copy 35mm film and slides (with an included adapter), print on CDs and DVDs and even print stills from digital movie files. The Canon Pixma MG8120 also has a 3.8-inch LCD screen for previewing and editing photos. Reviewers say it produces outstanding photo prints, especially in black and white, since there's a light gray and two kinds of black among its six ink cartridges.
However, this quality comes at a price: users warn that it goes through ink at a rapid rate. Text printing and other office-related tasks aren't the Pixma MG8120's strong suit, but print speeds are generally good. If you need a printer that includes a fax and does a better job with documents, the Canon Pixma MX882 (*Est. $150) is well reviewed, but it doesn't have the same range of photo options as the MG8120. On the other hand, if you can make do with a more basic model that has fewer features, but still prints great photos, consider the Canon Pixma MG5220 (*Est. $100).
