February 2009. Price becomes a significant factor in evaluating the performance of sub-$100 multifunction inkjet printers. The Canon Pixma MP470 had good reviews in its day, although it's since been replaced by the Canon Pixma MP480 (*est. $70). Reviews on the latter say it's basically the same machine -- printer, copier, scanner, and no fax. Regarding the older Pixma MP470, experts are unanimously impressed with extensive photo-printing options. And although there's less consensus on output quality, all concede that it's a good printer considering the low price. Photos are described as crisp, with decent color reproduction. Reports of text quality vary from acceptable to outstanding.
