- Outstanding print quality
- Good photo-printing features
- Good value
- Slow duplex printing
- Unimpressive scan quality
- No fax
If you need an inkjet printer that can also scan and copy, but you don't need to fax, reviewers consistently favored the Canon Pixma MP610 as the best choice in its day. Canon since has released the updated Canon Pixma MP620 (*Est. $140), which adds wireless networking. Experts said that the Canon Pixma MP610 outputs outstanding photos and documents, making it suitable for all-purpose use. Duplex printing is slow, say reviewers. And scan quality, while adequate, doesn't match what you'd get from a standalone scanner. If you need to send and receive faxes, the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C309 (*Est. $250) is best-reviewed.
PCMag.com delivers the most thorough, balanced and comparative review of the Canon Pixma MP610, featuring a standardized approach to printer testing. TrustedReviews.com's report is similar in length but lacks the substance of PCMag.com's. About.com and PC Pro both provide subjective measures of output quality. Amazon.com rounds out the review sampling, providing a cross-section of real-world performance with user-contributed evaluations.

Simon Williams' evaluation is largely a descriptive summary. At one point, the Canon is deemed "better" than another multifunction printer, but there is no elaboration. Williams finds the MP610 to be nearly flawless, except for slow duplex printing, and recommends it.

3. About.com
Peter Piazza doesn't particularly like the Pixma MP610. He concludes that similarly priced competitors perform just as well and are more user-friendly, but he doesn't specify which models those might be. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com, but the two don't share an editorial affiliation.)
