Reviewers say the Canon Pixma MP620 multifunction printer is a good choice in its price range. But there's no fax, no automatic document feeder and no automatic duplex option (printing on both sides of the page). The MP620 is an update of the Canon Pixma MP610, the key addition being wireless networking capability. It's designed more as a photo printer than a document printer, although some reviews say skin tones are a bit off. But there's a 2.5-inch LCD screen for previewing photos, a second paper tray for thicker paper and an optional pigment-based black cartridge for improved photo prints. HP's Photosmart Premium Fax C309 (Discontinued) is a better all-around multifunction printer, and it includes a fax.
We found the best review at PC World magazine, which does heavy testing and assigns an overall score that allows you to see how competing products rate. We also found credible, helpful coverage at Imaging-Resource.com, Laptop Magazine and ComputerShopper.com. Owner reviews are heavily positive at Amazon.com and Newegg.com, but even some users who like the Canon Pixma MP620 say it can be a pain to set up.

Melissa Riofrio says the Canon Pixma MP620 is "very good" and reveals results of its numerous lab tests. The gist is you get a lot for the price, but "flesh tones, in particular, looked orangey on plain paper and a little jaundiced on Canon's own photo paper."

Imaging-Resource.com is thorough and credible but obviously photocentric. "For a price as low as $50, the MP620 is quite a deal," reviewer Mike Pasini writes, referring to a $100 rebate with the purchase of a Mac from the Apple store. "And operations are more straightforward and more robust than we've seen on competing units."

3. Laptop MagazineDetails/Subscribe
While Laptop Magazine isn't encyclopedic in its printer coverage -- which somewhat mitigates the Editors' Choice award -- it is credible. The review finds that the MP620 is faster and has better photo quality than the Brother MFC-490CW and is faster and a touch worse on photos than the HP Photosmart C4580.

ComputerShopper.com delivers short reviews, but hands-on testing is evident on things such as speed ("slow") and print quality ("better than average"). Although reviewer David English recommends the Epson Artisan 800 as a speedy alternative, he also notes that the MP620 won't disappoint for the price.

5. Amazon.com
About 80 percent of the more than 225 user reviews give the Canon Pixma MP620 four or the maximum five stars. The most common complaints are about difficult setup and trouble operating the scanner.

6. NewEgg.com
Only a few of the more than 140 owner reviews score the Canon Pixma MP620 lower than four out of five. But even some positive reviews cite difficult setup, and some say the build quality is a bit flimsy.
