- Glossy ink
- Great-looking photos
- Includes fax
- Expensive
- Not great for documents
- Replacement ink hard to find
Reviewers aren't crazy about the high price of the Canon Pixma MX7600, and they aren't always in agreement that it's appropriate for an office because it's better at printing photos than documents. This multifunction inkjet printer uses six inks, including a clear one that can turn plain paper into a reasonable rendering of a glossy print. Quite a number of owner reviews, however, say they are peeved that the ink is unavailable except online. Otherwise, it's your basic multifunction with scanning and copying and what some reviews describe as a very good fax (one function lets you fax a document to up to 109 recipients in one session). If you're looking for something cheaper and more versatile, the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C309 (*Est. $250) earns better reviews. If you don't care about faxing and want great photos, consider the Canon Pixma MP980 (*Est. $300).
PCMag.com, ConsumerReports.org, CNET and PC World magazine all do thorough testing and assign overall scores that make it easy to see how the Canon Pixma MX7600 rates against the competition. ConsumerReports.org has the most convenient format -- listing about 40 all-in-ones -- but the individual reviews are short and a subscription is required. There are just about two dozen owner reviews at Amazon.com at this writing, but many point out that you can't usually get the ink in a store.

While M. David Stone rates the Canon Pixma MX7600 as "very good," he takes issue with Canon, labeling it an office printer. That's because document printing is not impressive, although photo and graphics output is judged to be "high-quality."

3. CNET
