Streaked printing started after one year of home use, November 20, 2009
The printing has begun to streak and leave multiple blank spots on the pages. No amount of cleaning or adjusting/replacing the cartridges helps. We haven't even used 1/2 a box of paper!! This of course is a real bummer and since I've purchased a stock of ink I'll have to take my chances on yet another Canon product if I don't want to lose more money...
2 Both failed with same issue, November 6, 2009
Error 6A00. You better look up the code before you even consider this. First one lasted 3 months, second one lasted 4 months. The mechanism on the inside jams up. You can see it but you can't do anything about it. Save your time and money and buy something else.
Home office printer, October 21, 2009

I bought this printer last June and used it as the primary printer/scanner in the home office. My setup includes a Windows 7 PC, Snow Leopard Mac, and XP machine. Canon makes it easy to download drivers for all operating systems on their support site. Hands down, it is the best personal-grade multifunction I've ever used and the only real issue I've had is the ink use. I've set the printer to minimize ink usage by default. My usage still justifies 5 black tank replacements and 2 color tank replacements last year. YMMV. I assume this is on par with most inkjets and will increase considerably if you print lots of photos. Scan functionality is also important to me and this handles scanning very well. Both quality, speed, and ability to feed up to 35 pages at a time are top notch. For a shared printer/scanner, having network connectivity is important. Configuring the Windows machines for network use was easier than with the Mac, but after everything was set, I've had no problems with it. For home office use, the MX850 has been excellent.

This is an excellent product, October 18, 2009

I purchased this printer about a year ago. I have had no problems with it at all. The printer is fast and the quality is good for both regular printing as well as photos. The copier part also does a good job. It is fast, both single and double-sided copies, with good quality. Changing ther printer cartridges is also easy. I have not set up the fax piece yet. This is a quality product with good features.

Excellent prints, October 14, 2009
Great prints and scans. Reasonably quick. Beware that they package far more software than most folks need to run the machine. Try the packages out and then delete the ones that you won't use.

3. PrinterInfo.com

PrinterInfo.com does extremely thorough, credible reviews that are lacking only in their failure to rate or rank printers against each other. Binde Rai's opinion is that the Canon Pixma MX850 is overpriced, with some banding on prints and "rather weak black and white prints."

4. ITReviews.co.uk

While not a go-to source for printer reviews, IT Reviews is highly credible and tests what it reviews. It likes just about everything about the Canon Pixma MX850 except for the "slow" duplex printing that it attributes to slow-drying ink.

5. Amazon.com

More than 160 owner reviews combine to give a very high rating to the Canon Pixma MX850. There are some varied complaints about the ink cartridges, with several noting that when one ink is out, you can't go ahead and print without it.
