The Epson WorkForce 610 distinguishes itself as one of the most compact multifunction printers with a built-in fax, which are usually bulky and heavy machines. Measuring 18 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches (with trays folded away) and weighing 18 pounds, it is smaller and lighter than others in its class. The drawback is that it has a small paper capacity -- a single 100-page input tray. Some owners also point out that the compact nature of the WorkForce 610 means it's hard to fix minor mechanical problems such as paper jams. Nevertheless, professional reviews say you get good quality and speedy document and photo printing, scanning, copying and faxing, as well as auto duplexing (printing on both sides of a page). The Epson WorkForce 610 has Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking built in, and Bluetooth is an extra-cost option. While the lowest-quality setting (draft mode) is very fast -- comparable in speed to lasers when printing text -- reviews say the prints don't look good.

The WorkForce 610 is well-represented in reviews. Pro reviewers at PCMag.com and CNET both give the printer a comprehensive evaluation. Blog-style reviews at TestFreaks.com and JusTechn.com are encouraging, as is the evaluation at About.com. Owner reviews at Amazon.com are mostly positive.

1. PCMag.com

Prolific printer reviewer M. David Stone says that the WorkForce 610's speed and business-related output are its strong points, but finds it slow for photo printing. He adds that what really keeps this model from being a top choice is its paper handling.

2. CNET

Justin Yu says that the Epson WorkForce 610 is "competent" and "dependable." However, he critiques the printer's output quality, and finds it strange that Epson only offers a one-year warranty for its WorkForce line (the company's Artisan MFPs are covered for two years). CNET also appends some user comments and a helpful comparison graph below the body of its review.

3. TestFreaks.com

Kristofer Brozio takes a blog-style look at the Epson WorkForce 610 after having reviewed the earlier model, the WorkForce 600, a year earlier. Brozio says that the new version is just as good as the old one (which he says he has been using with no trouble since his review). Brozio is also impressed by a redesign of the user interface on the LCD screen, which "makes life much easier."

4. About.com

Peter Piazza, About.com's guide to printers and scanners, gives the Epson WorkForce 610 a high overall score. He finds the touch screen a bit "cluttered" and has some wireless networking trouble, but overall he calls the WorkForce 610 very good. Piazza opines that with so many good Epson models available, consumers may do better if they can find a deal on Epson's Artisan 810 (*Est. $200). 5. JusTechn.com

Ryan McLaughlin, writing at JusTechn.com, praises the text printing of the Epson WorkForce 610, and finds that it generally performs well at all its tasks. While he is satisfied with the WorkForce 610's photo printing, McLaughlin notices a difference compared to the Epson Artisan 810. Numerous samples of output (both text and photos) are provided to illustrate his points.

6. Amazon.com

The Epson WorkForce 610 has about 100 owner reviews to date, and about half give the model 5 stars. Complaints concern paper jams, trouble with ink cartridges and operational noise.
