If you want a multifunction inkjet printer with an integrated fax modem, reviews say the HP Officejet J4680 is the cheapest name-brand offering you'll find. Reviewers say it's pretty slow, though, so if you're looking for an office printer, it had better be a very small office. Experts do say print quality is good for the price, but with four inks it obviously can't match a six-ink model on photos and graphics. There is also Wi-Fi capability, but some owner reviews express frustration with trying to get it to work. Some owners also say the scanner on the HP Officejet J4680 is not especially good.
If you have a subscription, ConsumerReports.org has the most convenient coverage, including a handy ratings chart of about 40 printers with links to individual reviews. Otherwise, there is good free coverage based on thorough testing at Macworld, PC World, HardwareCentral.com and ComputerShopper.com. We also found more than 100 owner reviews at Amazon.com, and a little more than half of them say they are dissatisfied, citing a litany of issues.

Macworld provides its testing results and finds the HP Officejet J4680 to be generally good and packed with features, although it's slow and has no duplex printing. Also, the color won't be as accurate with four inks as a six-ink printer would be.

PC World not only tests and reviews printers, it also gives a transparent look at the lab tests. The HP Officejet J4680 is judged "good" for a small office that doesn't need a lot of prints, because it's slow. The list of cons refers to costly inks, but the actual review says the costs are reasonable.
Review: HP Officejet J4680 Inkjet Multifunction Printer, Melissa Riofrio, Sept. 9, 2008
Eric Grevstad's detailed review ends with this succinct summary of the HP Officejet J4680 multifunction printer: "It's too petite for a five- or six-person, or frankly even a three-person, office, but we could genuinely see it meeting a startup or not-yet-full-time solo operator's needs for perhaps 20 or 40 pages per day."
Review: HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Review, Eric Grevstad, July 22, 2008
This review is brief, but hands-on use is evident. The recommendation is that the HP Officejet J4680 offers good faxing options and good text prints, but it's slow and doesn't print photos and graphics very well.
